The father remarried and Josephine was raised by her stepmother. Josephine was sexually abused by a family member, after which Josephine became pregnant. Her father and stepmother forced her to have an abortion because of shame for the family. Josephine was taken care of in the Esther home and, after giving birth and caring for the baby, has now returned to school.
